There have been eight new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in NSW over the past 24 hours.
Seven are among returned travellers in hotel quarantine.
One case involves a women in her 30s from south-western Sydney. Her close contacts, including some health staff at Liverpool Hospital, are in isolation pending the outcome of investigations.
A teenager from Victoria holidaying with his family in Merimbula has also been advised of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. The only public exposure he may have had outside the family group is a visit to the Tathra Hotel.
NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said the boy was initially cleared of having the virus but was later contacted by Victoria Health with a positive rest result.
“Now, just to be very clear about the circumstances around this child, the child and his family were not from a hot spot in Melbourne at the time,” Ms Chant said.
“They also undertook testing before coming to New South Wales and we’re actually advised that the test result was negative. But following their arrival in New South Wales, they were then advised that there had been an error and, in fact, the test result was a positive. All of the family contact have been in isolation and they’re now isolating in Merimbula.”
