TROCHECK TO HURRICANES
The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired center Vincent Trocheck (C, 52 percent owned) from the Florida Panthers. Trocheck has been heating up lately with four points (two goals, two assists) in his past four games, but his average ice time over the span (13:52 per game in span) has been low. He will likely slot in on the second line for the Hurricanes with wings like Nino Niederreiter, Warren Foegele or Justin Williams, bumping veteran center Jordan Staal down to the third line. Trocheck is a must-add player with the Hurricanes, who have 15 games during fantasy playoffs (Mar. 9 to Apr. 4). Trocheck provides strong coverage of shots on goal (129) and hits (83).
PAGEAU TO ISLANDERS
The New York Islanders have acquired center Jean-Gabriel Pageau (C, 63 percent owned) from the Ottawa Senators. The trade likely improves New York’s Stanley Cup Playoff chances but could hurt Pageau’s fantasy value if he plays center on the third line. Pageau, who has had a breakout season with an NHL career-high 24 goals, could potentially move to wing and play on either the first line with Mathew Barzal or second line with Brock Nelson, who leads the Islanders with 22 goals. Pageau, who’s on pace for an NHL career-high 52 points in 80 games, is worth holding onto in standard leagues with the hope that he improves the Islanders offense (2.84 goals per game, 22nd in NHL).
GREEN TO OILERS
The Edmonton Oilers have acquired veteran defenseman Mike Green (8 percent owned) from the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. Green is a sneaky add for fantasy owners in deep leagues with the expectation he could skate on the top power play with elite forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in the absence of injured Oscar Klefbom (shoulder). Green’s minus-32 with the Red Wings made him droppable at the defenseman position, but the three-time 50-point producer has bounce-back potential with elite exposure in Edmonton.
KOVALCHUK TO CAPITALS (FEB. 23)
The Washington Capitals have acquired veteran wing Ilya Kovalchuk (LW/RW, 28 percent owned) from the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday. The best-case scenario is for Kovalchuk to play on the top line with forwards Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov and/or first power play, making the veteran wing worth owning or keeping in most formats. Even if he skates on the third line with center Lars Eller, he could maintain his scoring pace with the Canadiens (13 points in 22 games).
KASE TO BRUINS (FEB. 21)
The Boston Bruins have acquired wing Ondrej Kase (RW, 9 percent owned) from the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. He will likely see significant time in the top six when he is activated from injured reserve (illness). Kase is expected to start on the second line with forwards David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk and is worth monitoring in all leagues when he returns. He had 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) and 135 SOG in 49 games with the Ducks this season but had an NHL career-high 20 goals in 66 games in 2017-18.
