Animal Crossing: New Horizons Multiplayer
Below are all the known details about Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Multiplayer features.
- Up to 8 players can live on an island; 4 players of the same island can play together, at the same time, on a single system.
- Up to 8 players can play together on one players island via online multiplayer or local wireless.
- You need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to access any online multiplayer features.
Note: Only one island can exist per Nintendo Switch console, irrespective of the number of user accounts registered to or copies of the game used on one console. One Nintendo Switch and one copy of the game is required for each unique island, as written on the Australian listing. This will pose a problem for you if you share a Nintendo Switch because you can still create your own character but you’ll have to share the island.
There’s an application on the NookPhone, Call Islander, that lets you call another resident on the island and then you can play together during local multiplayer (local wireless or online may also use this in-game app). This feature was shown off during Nintendo Treehouse E3 2019.
Local Multiplayer / Couch Co-Op
Animal Crossing: New Horizons local multiplayer does not have split-screen. This means that the camera will default to “the host.”
You can change the host whenever you want.
Because it’s not split-screen the non-host player(s) will automatically follow the host, popping into the screen if they straggle behind.
